General Requirements
- A student of good moral character who has been accepted as a student by an officially certified instructor of the Tang Soo Do Marial Way Association.
- Regular weekly Do Jang attendance.
- Contribution in service to the Tang Soo Do Marial Way Association..
- Minimum required evaluations as required by the Tang Soo Do Marial Way Association.
General Knowledge
- Good knowledge and ability in all lower rank requirements.
- Assistance in teaching and class responsibilities with ability to conduct formal classes with the approval of the Sa Bom Nim or Kyo Sa.
- Excellent general knowledge of Grandmaster Hwang Kee's Volume 1 textbook, and an ability to explain the relationship between forms, mental discipline, and spiritual growth.
Demonstration of Ability
- Gi Cho (Basic Movement):
- Hand Techniques: All lower belt requirements can be requested. Test of basic movements will be conducted in Korean terminology.
- Foot Techniques: All lower belt requirements can be requested. Test of basic movements will be conducted in Korean terminology.
- Hyung (Forms): Passai, Chil Sung Sam Ro Hyung, Naihanji Cho Dan Hyung.
- In Neh (Endurance): Candidate will be required to demonstrate Pahl Put Ki (horse stance punching) - minimun of 120 repetitions, with proper form and power, within a 60 second time period.
- Combination Set #10.
- Il Soo Sik Dae Ryun (One-Step Sparring): all combinations in both Sam Bu and Sa Bu applications.
- Ja Yu Dae Ryun (Free Sparring, two opponents)
- Ho Sin Sool (Self-Defense): all previous self-defense applications.
- Kyok Pa (Breaking): E Dan Dwi Cha Gi (two boards) and speed punch (one board)
- Specific knowledge of culture and terminology:
- Written Exam
- Written Essay: What Tang Soo Do Means to Me.
